![]() I suspect if I had chosen something like 'Car Dealership' or 'Hospital' I would have heard from them (or maybe not?) but there were so many to choose from I can see how it would be difficult for a processor to do any type of verification, at least until it became a problem. ![]() I could basically categorize myself as whatever I wanted, within reason, of course. It's been a few years (this was around 2008) but at that time they were really loosey-goosey with the MCCs. I wonder if we have to gamble with our purchases and could get a surprise like that at any time ?įWIW, several years ago I got a merchant account with Intuit (and Amex) to take credit cards for a very small side business I was trying to start up (it didn't last very long). Now I wonder if a merchant can simply select the merchant category code himself and does not have to take anything plausible? (QUASI-CASH = money orders, traveler's checks, foreign currency, lottery tickets or casino gaming chips) (print out of transaction which shows PURCHASE) From Chase I know it has been a purchase but coded as QUASI-CASH which resulted in CASH ADVANCE category. After an investigation at the merchant I have been told it has been processed properly as purchase. Why in the world they would process CASH ADVANCE for merchandise purchases without informing their customers. So back I go and complain to customer service of that merchant. To my big surprise I did get hit with a CASH ADVANCE fee and interest Called Chase to find out why and was told that the transaction got processed as QUASI-CASH. ![]() I recently purchased some household items in Switzerland and paid with CSP. ![]()
